    Notes for biography Albert was with the Customs Department in China. On one of his visits back from China to Linton to see his family, he met Elsie again - both families were friends. They were married on September 17, 1921 and Elsie went with him to Shanghai.

    Notes for biography They commenced married life in Shanghai but soon after, Albert was posted to Tien Tsin - further north in China - where Bill was born. They had one other child - John Robert (Jack) - who was born in Ahn Dung on April 27, 1924.
    About 1928, when Bill was six, Elsie brought both the boys back to Ballarat for their education.
    Unfortunately, while there, she became the victim of a lengthy illness and the boys spent all their school years as boarders at the Ballarat Church of England Grammar School. Their holidays were spent out on ‘Clifford Farm‘ at Linton with their uncle Bob and his wife Minnie and their only child, Laura.
    She eventually recovered but never returned to China. Through circumstances, Elsie and Albert never saw each other again.
    She later set up a home for the boys at 450 Wendouree Parade, Ballarat
    She went on to become at age 70 the Social Editress on the Ballarat Courier for approximately 10 years.
    She died aged 89 years on the 18th March 1978 and is buried in the Ballarat cemetery.   [1
